Ian Davey paintings on swan feathers.
“Each individual piece can take up to a week to complete, but Ian Davey’s delicate feather paintings really are something special to look at. The 46-year-old artist, who lives in a converted farmhouse in Snowdonia National Park, Wales, paints on swan feathers collected from a nearby swannery. He only uses feathers that naturally fall on the ground during the birds’ annual shedding period and starts the artistic process by cleaning and individually straightening them with tweezers. He always draws a sketch of what he means to paint on the feather, because he only has a one-foot-long, three-inches-wide canvas to work with so he has to know exactly what goes where. He applies a primer and works with a special acrylic paint that protects the feather. To nail the most detailed parts, Ian uses a specialized 000-size brush.”

Today’s been a pretty crap day all around so when I see something spectacularly beautiful and amazing and totally fantastical and painstaking and obviously a labor of love, which happens to be made by an artist who also lives in Snowdonia it makes me feel a little better about the universe.

You absolutely MUST see this.
Korean artist Sung Yeon Ju makes gorgeous garments out of food. Yes, this amazing dress you see is made of bubble gum. Others are made of tomatoes, chives, bananas, eggplants, shrimp, fried eggs, and more. Spectacular. Click through to see more.

Call for photographers, artist, more: Help Mat & Harper!
By now, you’ve heard what happened to our friends Mat and Harper, thanks to the scam artist who bilked them out of $5100 in rent money - along with dozens of other San Francisco residents. And it’s not as if this is any old move for Mat and Harper: There’s a baby on the way!
What we do best, here on Tumblr, is help. So far, you guys have been wonderfully supportive during my own difficult time, and I know you go all out to raise money when anyone is in need. I haven’t needed any financial help (yet), but I know that if I did, you guys would be here for me.
There’s a general call to help our friends, thanks to Mike Monteiro. You can go that route.
I was also thinking that maybe some of us could do a little creative fundraising of our own. After all, you need art for your walls, and they need to get back the money to rent new walls.
So photographers, artists, more: Who would be interested in donating original artwork or prints to help raise money? I will happily donate prints. We can open a store or even an auction.
Let me know…
