Blake Schwarzenbach writes some of the best love songs. He writes some of the best songs period (you may remember me from such posts as OH GOD I LOVE JAWBREAKER) but oh his love songs and his love/hate songs and his broken heart songs and just all of it. No wonder so many girls in the east bay were in love with him in the ’90s.
For years I went all stupid swoony for Sweet Avenue. Because come on:
holding you we make two spoons beneath an April moon
everything is soft and sweet
But I mean, you give me a song that has all these ideal boy-to-girl romantic lyrics in it PLUS YOU CALL IT CAT HEAVEN, and what do you THINK I’m going to do.
